How do I deal with wanting to cheat on my diet?

Hello Friends,

I was recently emailed a very good question by a friend and wanted to share the question and my answer with everyone.  The questions is “how do you deal with wanting to cheat on my diet?  Well, after the first 2 hours of starting my competition prep,  I am already having thoughts of cheating.  I start asking myself questions like “if I just have this right now it probably will not effect me since I just started.”   Then, I instantly go into my defense mode to combat these feelings.  I begin to post up pictures of myself when I was in the best shape of my life in various places.  One great place to post a picture is the refrigerator door.  Believe me, I am not into looking at myself all day, but at this point I need something to change my way of thinking.  Next, since everyone knows that I am pretty crafty person so at the beginning of my contest prep I will either learn a new craft I have never tried before or begin a new and very complicated project that will require alot of thinking.  So, my goal is to complete this project by the time of the contest.  By putting this type of pressure on myself, I now have another deadline to focus on.  Now if I choose to learn something new, I will sign up and take a few classes  to help keep me occupied when I have idle time.  I suggest if this is not your thing then find a really good book that you have been putting off reading and everytime you have idle time and you begin to have cravings,  pick of your craft or your new book and get to work!  The last time I competed, I learned how to knit and I really enjoyed it.  I have knit several items since then and am really proud of that achievement.  You just have to be creative on your choice and make sure you choose something that will take awhile to complete and will keep your interest.  I usually have most of my cravings on the weekends when I have more time on my hands.  So, I will pick up the needles and knit a new pair of socks or even start on a new sweater.  My main goal is to always have something going on so I will not think so much of cheating.  So having so many deadlines in place and seeing myself allover the place it helps me stay focuse on being in even better shape than I was the last time!  Feel free, to send me any suggestions or ideas.

Starting Competition Diet

Hello Friends,

Just wanted to talk a little about starting a competition diet properly.   First, don’t think of it as the end of the world.  Second, you should write out a grocery list that has the only items that you will eat throughout the entire diet.  Third, clean the food out of the refrigerator that you might decide to splurge on if you see it.  Once you have completed those steps and you have your diet all planned out you set up your game plan to help make it run smoothly.  For example, since we have all this new technology at our fingertips y0u should take advantage of it.  What I mean is set severals alarms at once for your meals to help remind you when it is time to have a meal.  We all know how time flies and before you know it you will forget to do something that is really important like eat a meal.  Also, have your whole menu saved on your cell phone so will always have it at your fingertips.  Last but not least, please be organized by setting up a time that you will prepare your meals daily.  Use that time every day so it will become a habit for you.  Remember,  fast food restaurants may be convenient.  there are no fast food restaurants that can make your food they way you do yourself.  There will always be something in the purchased meal that is not on your diet.  So for the moment, to be successful PREPARE YOUR OWN MEALS!!! These are just a few steps that I live by to help assist me and I wanted to share them with my friends.  Hope they help.

New Years Resolutioners falling off!

Hello Friends,

  The weather is nice and all of the New Years Resolutioners are falling off the wagon already, as usual.  But guess what, it is beneficial to those that really want to get a great workout in.  You get tired of asking people that are just sitting on the equipment if they are using it when it is clear that they are just wasting valuable time.  Oh, but dont worry they will be back in a couple of weeks to work out for a few more weeks so they can fit a new bathing suit.  Like that’s really possible.  I am starting my diet for the Tampa Pro Show in about 2 weeks and it will take me approximately 14 weeks to fit in my bathing suit.   But seriously,  I plan to be in tip top shape and can’t wait to see it myself.  I will be posting my before picture up right before I starting dieting so everyone can follow my progress.  Before I sign off, I would like to ask everyone to pray for the people in Japan.  They are really going to need all the support they can get to start over when this catastrophe finally ends.

Spring Already!

Hello Friends,

Just touching bases with everyone and wondering if everyone else is dealing with the sudden change in the weather.  It is spring here already.  One day it was in the 30′s then the next it in the 70′s.  I wasn’t looking forward to it happening so fast and so early.  I love the winter months because I my training is more intense during these months.  Don’t get me wrong I do train heavy all year but for some reason the winters months I achieve most of my gains.  Well enough of complaining about sunny weather.  I am training hard as usual.  I am doing 45 mins of cardio usually walking on treadmill on a very high incline at moderate speed at 5 am on a empty stomach.  Now, I haven’t started dieting officially yet.  I will in 3 weeks.  Usually, if I start too soon I will loose too much weight too early out and I am not trying to sacrifice any of my muscle that I have worked so hard for.  I will keep you updated from beginning to end.  I will need all the support I can get.

How is your Training

Hello Friends,

I haven’t blogged in a couple of days because I had the flu.  This weather is outrageous.  One minute it’s cold the next it warm.  We have near 70 degree temps right now.  And the people here act like we had such a rough winter that we are over due for warm weather.  I can’t stand it when people whine.  We had a couple of inches of snow and thats a “state of emergency” compared to the states that had several feet of snow.  I had to take a few days off at the gym to recover but I am excited about hitting it hard tomorrow.  I will let you know how it goes because I am going to train legs.

New Beginning

Hey friends, 

I am getting to step up my training due to me planning to compete in June.  I am so excited because I love to train heavy.  I have always been an athlete at heart so training comes natural to me.  I will definitely post some short clips with heavy lifts for you to enjoy.  My weight is still hanging around at 200 – 203lbs so I should be pretty strong.   For right now, I am training 5 days on and 2 days off.  That sounds very strenuous and believe me it is.  So much, that I look very forward to those two days off so I can rest my muscles.  As far as the order of body parts,  I am still working on it but tomorrow I will probably start out with a heavy chest workout and follow-up with quads on Tuesday.  At the end of the week I will give a full report on my workout so check back in with me then.  In the meantime, have a great Valentine Day.

New look on the site

Hello Friends,

I have changed the look of my site and I hope everyone find it to be more organized.  I started working on my site myself a year ago and I am still learning.  Considering, my learning curve on the computer consisted of logging in a checking mail and doing Google searches to now creating my own website.  I think I am doing pretty good.  Could it be better? Yes, and it will get better with the more I learn about developing websites.  But, in the meantime this what I have come up with and I will be adding much more for my friends to enjoy.
